Community Letter Writing Session

January 8th, 2022

5 pm EST

Afro- Caribbean Cultural Center in downtown Waterbury, CT (174 Grand Street, Waterbury, CT)

We're excited to announce our next Community Letter Writing Session where we will continue to write letters of support and love to youth currently in the Hartford and Bridgeport Juvenile Detention Centers. We believe writing letters can be a mutually connective and restorative process for all involved and we want to make sure the youth can feel seen and be heard while they are in the Detention Centers.

The session will be hosted in person with the option to zoom in.

It will be held on Sunday, January 8th at 5 PM EST at the Afro-Caribbean Cultural Center in downtown Waterbury, CT (174 Grand Street, Waterbury, CT). We will also have guest speakers who served time in the juvenile detention centers in Connecticut where they will speak about their experience and thoughts on letter writing. Letter-writing supplies can be provided upon request.

We hold our letter-writing session every 3 months!

American Rescue Plan Community Forumn

On July 7th, RACCE held a community forum to discuss the best way to use nearly $90 million from the American Rescue Plan to improve Waterbury Public Schools for students.

We are advocating for this money to be invested in:

  • Culturally Sustaining Books & Literacy Materials

  • Student Leadership

  • Parent Engagement

  • Gender Neutral Bathrooms

  • And much more!

We believe that these funds should be invested into #peoplenotproperty!
